Leap, Bunny, Leap!

It’s challenging enough for compassionate consumers to find cosmetics and personal care products without having to worry if a product labelled “not tested on animals” is truly cruelty free. Regrettably, there are certain companies that claim their products are not tested on animals, when in truth ingredients contained within the product may have been tested on animals at various stages of development. Please make no mistake: animal testing is excruciatingly painful, outmoded, unnecessary, and not required by U.S. law.
The good news is that the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) is making a difference. The Coalition is helping to eliminate the guesswork out of shopping for cruelty-free cosmetics, personal care products, and household cleaners by having created the Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals. All CCIC approved companies, pledge of their own accord that they will not “conduct or commission animal tests for any of their finished products, ingredients, or formulations after a fixed cut-off date." While many of the companies approved by the CCIC use only vegan ingredients -- no honey, for example, the Coalition's logo is not, as stated on their website, "a reference for assurance of a vegan purchase." Consumers can be assured, however, that all companies approved by the CCIC adhere to the Coalition's Corporate Standard of Compassion for Animals.
Look for the Leaping Bunny, the CCIC’s logo and remember, not all cruelty-free logos are created equal!
