BOOK REVIEW

It's a nice day for a gluten-free wedding

Gluten-free Recipes for the Conscious Cook
A Seasonal, Vegetarian Cookbook

By Leslie Cerier
New Harbinger Publications, Inc., 223 pp.

Chelsea Clinton's recent wedding drew lots of interest not only because it was a million dollar affair, a media event made in heaven, but also because Chelsea and her bridegroom — who wedding experts have since dubbed "trendsetters" —included a few somewhat untraditional elements as part of their special day. Chelsea is reportedly a vegetarian as well as allergic to gluten, hence the couple's 9-tiered gluten-free wedding cake!

But what if you're vegetarian and allergic to gluten yet do not have thousands of dollars to spend on a cake and gluten-free fare? "The Organic Gourmet" to the rescue! Leslie Cerier, "The Organic Gourmet," is a national authority on gluten-free cooking and baking and she's released a wonderful cookbook that includes over 100 recipes perfect for family meals, wedding parties, or any occasion for that matter! For example, Gluten-Free Recipes for the Conscious Cook features a recipe for "Red Lentil and Teff Loaf with Red Wine and Porcini Sauce," which the " Organic Gourmet" served at a summer wedding impressing both vegetarian and non-vegetarian guests.

Unlike Chelsea Clinton and a vast number of others, I'm not allergic to gluten; nevertheless, I love this cookbook! For the past couple years I've been preparing gluten-free meals each week simply because like many people I feel better when limiting gluten. Thanks to the Organic Gourmet I now have plenty of tasty new recipes to try!
